Europcar helps customers plan ahead for summer vehicle rentals in the UK


"Drivers are still getting used to the new driving licence system and with the Summer holidays just around the corner we thought it was worth reminding them about getting their code if they’re hiring in the UK”, said Ken McCall, Managing Director, Europcar UK Group.  “The easiest way is to visit the ‘Share Driving Licence’ website before picking up their rental vehicle and they can do that up to 21 days before they are going away.  But if customers do forget, as long as they bring their National Insurance number to the branch, they will still be able to access their code online using one of our in-branch tablet devices.”

How Europcar is helping UK customers for UK rentals

  • For online bookings, customers are directed to the DVLA service and reminded to get their code which is valid for 21 days before picking up their car
  • Customers booking by phone are given the same advice
  • Any customer submitting their email address or mobile number at the point of booking will also receive an email reminder or text message to ‘get your code’ before their reservation is due to start
  • Tablets and internet access is available in all branches to enable travellers to log onto the DVLA website if they haven’t already got their code

Non-UK driving licence holders renting in the UK aren’t affected by the changes but they do need to bring a second form of ID such as a passport, along with their valid driving licence.

Overseas Rentals by UK licence holders

UK licence holders travelling abroad simply need to present their UK photocard driving licence or ‘old style’ paper-only driving licence plus a second form of ID such as their passport, when collecting their vehicle.
