In The Pink!

in the pink beauty

Who says you have to say goodbye to all things pink and sparkly when your little girl outgrows her Sleeping Beauty costume (sniff!) and aspirations to be Angelina Ballerina? I still have a weakness for the shamelessly girlie shade and the pink proof is everywhere - from the rubberised cover on my mobile phone (which my husband whips off whenever he borrows it) to my school run sneakers and penchant for fuchsia plastic party-ware. Like many of my (officially grown-up, although I'm not sure we feel it) girlfriends, I find a ‛pop' of pink - often in unexpected places - fun, funky and instantly spirit-lifting.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, there's never been a better excuse to splash out on some fantastically pink (and, yippee, often sparkly!) beauty treats knowing that, at the same time, you are supporting an even more fantastic cause. It's one that's close to so many of our hearts, with statistics showing that one in nine women in the UK and one in twelve women in Ireland will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.

Championing the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign couldn't be easier: make a donation to one of the brilliant charities involved, pin on your pink ribbon and take your pick from the gorgeous, limited edition beauty products created especially to support the cause. MumKnowsBest has scoured the counters for some of the most fabulous finds...

Skin savers

Keep your complexion in the pink and support the cause with skincare treats designed to help raise funds for breast cancer charities. Having brought Breast Cancer Awareness Month to the UK sixteen years ago, the Est√©e Lauder Companies mission to help prevent the disease and fund research worldwide has gone from strength to strength (it was founder Est√©e's daughter, Evelyn, who created the non-profit Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 1993). This year, Clinique (one of the Est√©e Lauder brands) is offering a Special Edition Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (¬£35) - the classic, banana milkshake-coloured moisturiser loved the world over - ‛dressed' in pink ribbons (¬£2 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each bottle sold, at Selfridges nationwide).

Meanwhile, Darphin - the French skincare company now also part of the Estée Lauder stable - has created a limited edition of its Arovita C Energic Firming Cream (£46), formulated to rehydrate, nourish and firm the skin, morning and/or night. It comes in a pretty pink jar and pink ribbon-bedecked box (£5 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's research programme at the UK Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research. This long-lasting tinted gloss is one of the company's most popular products and the limited edition key chain features three great shades of pink and, of course, a pink ribbon charm (£2 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for each key charm sold, at Clinique counters, Boots nationwide and

Hand-picked by Elizabeth Hurley, who is a passionate supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Estée Lauder's The Elizabeth Hurley Lip Collection (£20) includes a Pure Color Lasting Lipstick in Elizabeth Pink (naturally!), High Gloss in Pink Lady (another limited edition) and Artist's Lip Pencil in Spice Writer, all presented in a hot pink lipstick case (for each collection sold, £5 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's research programme at the UK Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research).

MumKnowsBest is a big fan of US make-up artist (and time-crunched mum) Bobbi Brown's make-up range and her inspiringly ‛real' beauty philosophy, so we're thrilled to shout about her limited edition Pink Ribbon Collection (¬£28) featuring an exclusive shade of Bobbi's creamy Lip Color and a Glitter Lip Balm, embossed with the Pink Ribbon logo (Bobbi Brown will donate the entire purchase price of each collection sold, less VAT, to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's research study at the Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research, London. In the Republic of Ireland, it will go the Cancer Clinical Research Trust at Vincent's, Dublin).

The last word in luxe, Crème de la Mer UK & Ireland have created a limited edition Crème de la Mer, The Lip Balm (£35). Designed to soften and protect lips, this beauty insider's favourite comes complete with a pink leather pouch and presented in a white presentation box (£5 from each balm sold will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, available at Harrods, Knightsbridge, and Brown Thomas, Dublin).
